bird bath feederAug 31, 2010 When I first put this out the birds wouldn't get near it. I tried putting some little rocks in it thinking they were just afraid because they couldn't see the bottom or something but still didn't notice any birds. So I dumped the water and filled it up with some bird feed and they were all over it. I decided to go back to the water after they had gotten used to it and they aren't all over like when it was full of bird feed but they are at least starting to warm up to. I've seen a few birds in it. I was really excited thinking they'd be happy to have someplace to drink and take a bath but guess they aren't like humans....lol...it was worth the money if I could just get the birds to get more excited about it...ha

Well Worth The CostAug 06, 2010 All in all, this is a very clever way to allow the birds in your yard to get a drink without a traditional bird bath/waterer. It hangs nicely from the tree, though it does have a bit of weight when full, so make sure you have a sturdy branch. I have TONS of birds in my yard and keep them well fed, and even so it took about four days for a single bird to even investigate this. But once they caught on, they just love it. I'm sure the smaller birds could sit in the reservoir and take a quick bath, but I haven't seen that happen yet (I've had this about a month now). So if you enjoy watching the birds in the birdbath, this probably isn't for you. But if you want to provide a way for your birds to get a drink that is safe and fairly low maintenance, then I would recommend this. It can be a bit tricky to get the base back on when refilling, but a bit of patience...and another set of hands are certainly helpful. Would buy this again for sure.

A Much Overlooked Necessity...Jun 17, 2010 As an avid bird feeding enthusiast, I have learned that providing a clean fresh water supply to your backyard birds is as essential as offering them food. Unfortunately it is far too often an overlooked one. Most people that have gone to the birds so to speak get around to setting up a bird bath or two eventually. Figuring that birds being not so fussy as us will settle for whatever water supply there is regardless of its cleanliness. And in a pinch where there is nothing else around, they will most certainly do that. But as anyone that owns a bird bath or two comes to know, they get extremely dirty and slimy quite easily, and very often keeping it clean evolves into one of those chores we tend to neglect. This first nature waterer not only provides a fresher more easily cleaned alternative to bird baths, but its design tends to deter birds from favoring it as a bird bath to begin with.
Just like us, birds like to immerse themselves in a bath whenever possible, and the four little basins on this waterer are a little small for most birds to manage a decent wash. The results of my experience with owning two of these waterer's are that very few birds end up using it as a bath, and far more use it for drinking. Which in my opinion is a good thing. Its a bird bathing that messes up bird baths something awful, not the drinking. Trust me when I tell you that birds in general have a much easier time finding bathing water than locating or taking advantage of the clean drinking variety. Both of my waterer's have been in active use through summer and winter for two years now and still appear as new. (I only fill them half full in winter to allow for expansion. What is left still freezes at times, but usually enough thaws in the sun to provide some fresh supply. They have both survived two New England winters intact).
These waterer's also provide a safe place for your birds to get refreshed up high and out of the reach of any cats or other predators. The bottom unscrews like a big cap and its easy to get at all the waterer's innards to clean. A couple of tips on this unit should you decide to purchase it. Its much easier to fill the bottle with water and then carry the bottom piece and bottle upside down separately to your destination, and then screwing on the bottom before turning it right side up. (Or, bring a big watering bottle to the unit and do it all there). If you put it together up front and then take your walk the sloshing will force the unit to overfill and you will lose a good portion of it on the way. Also, screw in the bottom piece just tight enough that it makes contact. Over tighten just a little and you will be using all kinds of naughty words the next time you need to get it apart. Its like it gets welded on. These waterer's are almost impossible to find in stores, rare even online, and most importently provide the easiest cleanest way to provide your backyard birds with fresh water. They are very reasonably priced here on Amazon and I highly recommend them...
