5I'd like to tell you why this may be the best feeder you can get.Aug 19, 2010
OK, first off, let's face it. If you put up a feeder and your hummers don't go for it, you won't care what the feeder LOOKS like, how it's MADE, or how easy it is to CLEAN. I've read reviews that say "my hummers ignore this feeder" or "it just hasn't attracted any hummers". It's ALL about the birds... so, if a particular feeder doesn't bring 'em in, I can't argue with that, but this is MY experience. This may be the best darn hummingbird feeder on the market. I have tried LOTS of them! I reached a point where I considered building my own, then I found this one. For me the "Fancy" is absolutely perfect. Here's why:

My hummers LOVE this feeder. I could stop it there, but I'll tell you what's so great beyond that if you're in the mood to read a while :-)

The red color is extremely vibrant because it's translucent. This means that the red almost GLOWS in daylight. Everybody knows hummers LOVE red... and this extremely vibrant red color is almost hypnotic to the little guys. Within 10 minutes of hanging it up they were going positively NUTS around it... I think they like the appearance of the feeder as much as I do, although they're probably mostly fascinated with how ULTRA-RED it is.

You don't want yellow on a hummer-feeder because it mainly draws bees! I thought the hummers may benefit from some different color (flower) around the ports (feeding holes), but they had no trouble figuring it out. ALL red is a PLUS here... it again shows an intelligent feeder design... and you'll notice that other "enthusiast grade" feeders won't have yellow either.

The construction is FIRST RATE. As a guy I love that the whole thing is made of polycarbonate (which is basically LEXAN... yeah, the stuff bullet proof glass is made from... or the clear stuff around a hockey rink). As almost every other feeder I've ever had is good for ONE season... breaking at some point before two seasons for sure, it's pretty cool to get a feeder that's made from truly space-age (virtually unbreakable) materials... in such an elegant package.

Droll Yankees is a great company I'm sure, but their feeders are made from "uv stabilized acrylic". If you can choose between two materials, one virtually guaranteed not to break, and the other most definitely breakable, I choose UN-breakable.

Like the other saucer feeders... this one snaps together from two halves... this is pretty standard so I won't dissect this point, but let's just say the fit and finish of the halves is great and everything snaps tight and feels very solid and looks very well-made. Notice on the mini-hummzingers (I have two of those, not nearly as good as the fancy series IMO) there are only 3 "stays" holding the perch... the Fancy (even the little fancy) has TWICE as many... WAY more solid.

The ant-moat is something 95% of you reading this need. It's awesome to have that little problem solver built right into the feeder. It will drain before over-filling... so if your feeder is out in the rain you know the rain will either run off from the surface design... or run THROUGH before it over-flows the ant-moat.

OK... on to the SHAPE. I obsess a bit and looking at the various pictures on the net it seems some saucer feeders are "too fat". You look at the picture and think "will my hummers be visible from the other side? or will I only see the top of their heads?" This is why I bought the hummzinger minis! I thought "hmm, nice and flat saucer... clear view of the hummers from any angle!" NO! The profile of the Fancy is great! It's actually flatter then it appears, but yes, you see how the feeder plate angles up a bit compared to the regular hummzingers? Why do you suppose they did that? I have a guess, that appears to be playing out in my own backyard! It's because the hummers don't have to tilt their heads TOTALLY down to drink from the feeder ports! With that angled surface it's definitely less of an angle on their little necks (it's OK to laugh at me for making this observation, but I honestly think it matters). The other great thing about this saucer shape is that it's about 50/50 on hover feeding vs. perched feeding. This shape is conducive to both... the port is just far enough up the surface that the mid-size hummers can sit and feed, while the smaller birds hover up to feed, then back up and sit on the perch again. This accomplishes ALL THE GOALS I HAD FOR A FEEDER. It's a feeder that lets the birds choose what they want, which encourages a longer stay at the feeder.

Finally... super-easy to clean. Top-shelf dishwasher-safe... etc. If you have a feeder that's a pleasure to use and maintain it will always be a pleasure to you AND your hummers.

Final tip: The bottom of the feeder has that little screw-in finial for decoration. When you fill your feeder just set it on an empty coffee mug so the protruding bottom shape goes down in the mug and you have a stable, flat surface to do your thing. Simple.

Congratulations to Aspects for making such a SMART and attractive hummer feeder!

2Birds Aren't InterestedJul 31, 2010
We bought this feeder to replace our older, glass type. Based on reviews on this site, we bought the Aspects. When it arrived, we placed it at the location of the old feeder and waited. And waited. Occasionally birds would swing by and check it out. Rarely they would stop and drink.

My wife suggested we mount the original, old glass feeder in another spot. We chose one just outside the kitchen window. The hummingbirds started using it immediately, ignoring the new Aspects feeder.

Now maybe the new location is better, from the hummingbirds' perspective, though it is much closer to the house and just outside a door used frequently by our dogs. In any event, despite claims to the contrary on this site, the hummingbirds seem to prefer the older, glass-type feeder to this Aspect feeder.

I gave this 2 stars only because I don't know how else to rate it. On the one hand, I'm disappointed that the Aspects is not living up to its claims of being more attractive (to the birds). OTOH, it is easy to clean and has a unique look (to us). In the final analysis, it *is* all about the birds, so I'm giving it two stars.

5Things are humming around here!Jun 17, 2010
My husband and I are reallying enjoying our hummzinger. We've had hummingbirds on it since the first day. It is very easy to care for and fill. I made the sugar solution, our grand daughter hung it up and we took pictures of the birds. I bought three more for friends and family.

5Awesome Feeder!Jun 09, 2010
This is an awesome feeder! I've had bottle feeders for years, and wanted something different, classier, so I began looking high and low. This feeder looks sensational, and the hummers just love it. They hover sometimes and sometimes use the perch, but they use it constantly. It is well designed and easy to clean. Feeder shipped quickly, actually arriving ahead of schedule! I highly recommend it!

5AWESOME FEEDERJun 06, 2010
I was looking for a hummingbird feeder that didn't look cheap like the other hummzinger. I didn't like the plastic w/ yellow flowers of the basic hummzinger. I was online and came upon this one. It's more dressy looking and looks great hanging on my patio. It took the hummers 2 wks to find it, but when they did they've been frequenting it quite often. It is easy to set-up and clean. Definately a great purchase.
